A Heart Gone Cold

6 March 2010 | Paul Rea

His is a heart gone cold
He gave with two hands
He greeted the sunrise with a smile
But you trammelled
You took
You tortured

You corrupted
A thing so fair
So frail
So pure

His smile you faded
His joy you oppressed
His love you stole

His meals you ate
His wine you drank
His heart you played
His music you broke

You forgot
That love does not come easy
And outweighs
A million sunny days

That a beam of hope
Is a light in the dark
It’s all we have
In this hell we call home

You never said sorry
You never even cried
You took the best
But left him alive

To wallow in his sorrow
Alone in his pain
Cold in the darkness
Crying in the rain

Scratch the surface
And beneath it you will find
A heart gone cold
His heart…

Is mine
