Youth Lost

3 April 2010 | Paul Rea

A cry for youth lost
Youth gone by
Echoes in the emptiness
Without answer
Without pause

Youth spent wandering the forest
Missing the trees
Searching for a glimpse of the light
That was always hidden from me

Wasted and squandered
Lost in the noise
The bustle
The wild

My open hand
Grasps at the sand
Passing through my fingers
Every grain
Opportunity lost
Passion never found

A missed kiss
A lover scorned
Never to return
Distant lost memory now

To be young once more
To grab life by the horns
And not let go
In spite of the thorns

Heed my advice my young friend
Seize this day
Make it yours
Time may only tell
But it never waits

For rest assured
There is a fading of the day
Followed by the long dark night

Heed my words
Young ones
Live love laugh
Before the starlight is all that remains
Of so many sunny days
Gone by
Gone past
